Thai passport holders MUST have a visa to enter the EU except when transiting.
Types of Schengen Visas
Short-Stay Visa (Type C)
There are multiple categories applicable to this, including Tourism, Business (conferences, meetings etc.) Family, Medical, Sports, Cultural, Spouse and Religious. The general concept/requirements/benefits are the same for all categories, with specific evidence required for each category, e.g. Medical requires an appointment letter.
Single-Entry Visa
Purpose: Allows a one-time entry into the Schengen Area. After leaving, a new visa is required for re-entry.
Duration: Typically valid for up to 90 days within 180 days for a single visit.
Multiple-Entry Visa
Purpose: Permits multiple entries during its validity, allowing flexible travel.
Duration: Valid for up to 5 years, depending on the application and the consulate’s decision. Each stay can last up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
Key Requirements:
Intent to Leave: Proof of intent to return to your home country (employment, family, property).
Financial Stability: Bank statements to show funds covering travel and stay expenses.
Purpose of Visit: Travel itinerary, hotel bookings, or invitation letters.
Long-Stay Visa (Type D)
These are technically not a Schengen visa - however they are issued by a Schengen state and grant free-travel within the Schengen area for leisure, but does NOT allow you to live, work, or study in a Schengen state other than the issuing state.
This category covers a wide range such as retirement, study, work, visiting, digital nomads and more.
Purpose: For extended stays in a Schengen country for study, work, or family reunification.
Key Features: Issued by the specific country where the applicant intends to stay long-term.
Key Requirements:
Country-Specific Documentation: Proof such as a work contract, university acceptance, or family reunification paperwork.
Proof of Financial Support: Sufficient funds to sustain yourself during your stay.
Travel Insurance: Valid for the entire duration of your stay.
Duration: Usually valid for more than 90 days, depending on the issuing country’s policies.
Business Visa (Type C)
Purpose:
For individuals attending conferences, negotiating contracts, or engaging in business activities in the Schengen Area.Key Features:
Can be issued as a single-entry or multiple-entry visa, depending on the purpose and frequency of travel.
Key Requirements:
Invitation Letter: From the host company or organization in the Schengen country.
Proof of Employment: Documentation from your employer supporting the purpose and duration of the trip.
Financial Proof: Evidence of sufficient funds for the trip or sponsorship from your employer.
Travel Insurance: Valid insurance covering medical emergencies up to €30,000.
